Take off -ть, then choose the ending by who did it. я and ты follow the person's sex; мы and вы always take -ли.

The red syllable carries the stress. In не́ был, не́ было, не́ были it jumps to не.

Lesson 17, Monday: The past tense

рабо́тал, рабо́тала, рабо́тали: worked: he, she, they.
Что вы де́лали вчера́?: What did you do yesterday?.
Pronouns: -л он, -ла она́, -ло оно́, -ли они́.

Lesson 18, Thursday: Where you were

Где вы бы́ли?: Where were you?.
Я был в кино́.: I was at the cinema..
в понеде́льник, в сре́ду: on Monday, on Wednesday.
Я не́ был до́ма.: I wasn't at home..
