Say where you were, and when
Russian has no is in the present, but it does have was: был, была́, бы́ли. Add the days of the week and you can talk about any day.

Где вы бы́ли? — был, была́, бы́ло, бы́ли
Monday morning at work. Two colleagues ask about the weekend; notice how was changes with the person, and how a day is said.

No, I was not: не́ был
Say every form aloud and lean on the red syllable. In three of the negative forms, the stress jumps onto не.

| Я не была́ на рабо́те. | I wasn't at work. (a woman) |
| Мы не́ были до́ма. | We weren't at home. |
The stress jumps to не in не́ был, не́ было, не́ были. Only не была́ keeps it on the ending.
The days of the week
Seven days, each with its on that day form. Only the days ending in -а change, and вто́рник borrows an о.

After в, -а becomes -у; во makes вто́рник easier to say. To ask the day: Како́й сего́дня день? — Сего́дня понеде́льник.
