Shop for food: amounts and prices
At a Russian market everything is an amount of something: a kilo of apples, a bottle of water. The something always takes the genitive.

Things you count take the genitive plural (я́блок, помидо́ров); things you don't count take the genitive singular (воды́, ча́я, хле́ба).
