A good travel story has a background and steps forward. Russian marks the difference with its two kinds of verb, and you already have both.

Linking a story
A weekend trip, day by day. Look at the verbs before you read the rule.

Background and steps forward
| Russian | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Мы до́лго е́хали, и наконе́ц прие́хали. | We travelled for a long time, and at last we arrived. |
| Три дня мы гуля́ли по го́роду. | For three days we walked around the town. |
| Мы купи́ли пода́рки. | We bought presents. |
The background takes the process verb; each step forward takes the result verb.
The weather on the trip
