Week 10, Lesson 20, Thursday
Say what you eat, drink and love, and ask the price
Two everyday verbs are irregular, so learn them as they are. Prices bring back a rule you already know from years and hours.
1Recap 5 minutes
Three questions from Monday, before anything new.
2Goal 1 minute
I can say what I eat and drink at each meal, what I love, and understand prices.
3The lesson 20 minutes
In this lesson
- есть and пить: two irregular verbs
- Meals
- люби́ть: to love, to like a lot
- Prices: Ско́лько сто́ит?
есть and пить: two irregular verbs
Breakfast talk between two friends. The verbs are short and irregular; read them aloud until they feel easy.
| Person | есть (eat) | пить (drink) |
|---|---|---|
| я | ем | пью |
| ты | ешь | пьёшь |
| он, она́ | ест | пьёт |
| мы | еди́м | пьём |
| вы | еди́те | пьёте |
| они́ | едя́т | пьют |
These are two of the commonest verbs in Russian: learn them by heart.
Meals
| Russian | Meaning |
|---|---|
| за́втрак | breakfast |
| обе́д | lunch |
| у́жин | dinner |
| на за́втрак | for breakfast |
| Что вы еди́те на обе́д? | What do you have for lunch? |
люби́ть: to love, to like a lot
| Person | Form |
|---|---|
| я | люблю́ |
| ты | лю́бишь |
| он, она́ | лю́бит |
| мы | лю́бим |
| вы | лю́бите |
| они́ | лю́бят |
It takes the same endings as хочу́: Я люблю́ ры́бу. With a verb: Я люблю́ чита́ть.
Prices: Ско́лько сто́ит?
Four price tags. Read each one aloud, then look at the coloured word: it follows the rule you know from years and hours.
| Russian | Number |
|---|---|
| сто | 100 |
| две́сти | 200 |
| три́ста | 300 |
| четы́реста | 400 |
| пятьсо́т | 500 |
| ты́сяча | 1000 |
рубль, рубля́, рубле́й follow the rule of год, го́да, лет: 1 рубль, 2 to 4 рубля́, 5 and above рубле́й. So 200 ₽ is две́сти рубле́й.
